Late Night with Jimmy Fallon: In Conversation with Brian Williams: Live at the Paley Center

Fun to watch!
These are two of my favorite people, so I thought this was great! Lot of laughs, but some good insight, too.

Outstandingly entertaining
Great to get an understanding of the early plans Jimmy had for the show and comparing them to how the show has evolved. Jimmy has a real sense of fun and imparts it into the show. If I didn't know better I would say he was Canadian!

I thought this was an extremely entertaining andan educational`

Young and Wild

Trouble In (Youthful) Paradise
It was hard enough growing up without the advent of social media. Now, any kid with access to a computer can create an entire identity that may (or may not) reflect his or her upbringing and education. Even worse, these fertile young minds can constantly exposed to a whole host of online influences that might push them into exploring vices that used to be saved for marriage. This doesn't mean that our culture is being undone - rather, it means that those of us who wish to preserve have to work at least as those daily assaulting it with little more than a vivid imagination and the click of a mouse. If you thought parenting was a walk in the park before seeing YOUNG AND WILD, you might wanna give this a spin and think again.

(NOTE: The following review will contain minor spoilers necessary solely for the discussion of plots and characters. If you're the kind of reader who prefers a review entirely spoiler-free, then I'd encourage you to skip down to my last two...

forgetable
Not a film I would recommend unless you are looking for a yardstick to measure future films by. If you have a choice pass on this one.

Skew [HD]

Skew is just that! Skewed!
Love this movie.
Warning: This is Found Footage, so if you don't care for the genre, you probably won't like this, even though it's a good movie.
Great story, keeps you interested through out, I was happy to spend the time watching.
Kind of sci fi- ish.

Smart and Tense
A slow burn is definitely the case here. But that is to be expected of these sorts of found footage films. What makes it so good is the story. The filmmakers actually took the time with their story and character development to create something unique and with more than one twist. A smart found footage film.

Very good idea
This is an excellent movie. The ending is a bit weird , but if i see a movie that is 90 percent of the time good /very good i am very happy. The makers had a good idea and made the best of it.I found the movie very good and better then most Hollywood products.

The Guillotines

The Guillotines
Very good storyline, typical chinese movie where the the hero dies. I enjoyed it all even while taking an intermission.

THE GUILLOTINES Cuts Its Own Head Off At The Outset
Period actioners can be a very tough vehicle to sell, especially when they're loaded with characters. Typically, the bigger the cast the longer the film has to be in order to have enough time for (a) establishing everyone's identity, (b) giving each notable the necessary screen time to establish presence, and (c) allowing each of the principles to allow their respective thematic functions to be fulfilled. One fine example of this is THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN (an American retread of the Japanese 1954 original SEVEN SAMURAI): each character gets an introduction respective of the role he'll play in the entire affair, and each character is given ample opportunity to develop a personality and some impactful `conclusion' to his participation in it.

To the contrary, THE GUILLOTINES kinda/sorta tinkers in similar territory, but director Andrew Lau (whose career proves he knows better) traffics in all the wrong directorial choices.

(NOTE: The following review will contain...

Not as bad as people are saying
I'm always skeptical about kung fu movies with CGI graphics because i believe that it ruins most kung fu movies, but i don't feel like it's over done in this movie. Most of the CGI graphics are during the scenes when they show how the guillotine weapons work. The acting is not bad and the original language is beautiful to hear. I bet most of the people who reviewed this movie watched it with English over dubs which completely ruins these foreign movies. I always watch kung fu movies in their original language in order to get the true feel of the emotion involved.

With that being said, i loved the story and plot of this movie. I found it to be inspirational and refreshing, especially towards the end when it all unfolds. I would recommend this movie to people who love kung fu movies and enjoy inspiring story plots.

Just Like Being There

Cool Art And Cool Music: A Specialized Documentary Feature Showcasing Gig Posters As Pop Art
I think that it's fair to say that the documentary "Just Like Being There" is a rather specialized feature. I always like to consider how much universal appeal a documentary might have outside of its core audience. In the case of Scout Shannon's study on the art of gig posters, I'm not sure it's a subject that will necessarily be widely embraced. That doesn't mean that the experience isn't entertaining or worthwhile, it just isn't for everyone. Of particular interest to musicians and artists, "Just Like Being There" showcases some cool graphic art and some great concert footage (mostly by indie artists that I'd never heard of). Here's the breakdown. If you know what gig posters are, this will likely appeal to you. If you don't, this probably wouldn't be among your first choices of film.

The movie opens in the world of music as one might expect. This is the arena that kicked off the gig poster phenomenon and made it as noteworthy as it is. We meet several leading...

Legend of the Fist

To be brutally honest...
The writing kind of sucks and the choreography isn't amazing either. As a Donnie Yen fan, I was let down a little. In my opinion, it's not worthy of Donnie Yen or the other actors that played in it. After watching Ip Man and other great Martial Arts films, it just doesn't compare.

My standards are high but that is my honest opinion.

Edgy and touching
This was a touching movie that kind of snuck up on me to leave me with things to think about. It focused on different characters' perspectives on sex, romance and individual expression, in a way that wasn't sugar-coated. Every character seemed to have elements that I could relate to, from people I've known to my own self-reflection. I'm still smiling from the ending -- heartwarming, and it all just seemed to fit really well.

The song in the closing credits was cool too -- I'll look for it and buy it.

Reincarnated

Self-serving but fascinating
This is a very interesting look into Snoop Lion's inner psyche, but it falls short in that we see more of what he wants to be like than what he is actually like right now. Peeks into the lack of full self-disclosure are snippets of Snoop's reaction when asked about why he feels vulnerable after giving up his guns. It is undoubtedly very difficult to shake off a past like Snoop's, and I admire him for trying to do so, but he apparently has some way to go, as reflected by Bunny Wailer's public renunciation of Snoop as a Rastafarian even before this documentary came out. It would have been much more interesting to have the opposing view of Snoop from the Rastafarian perspective, good and bad, as this superstar is trying to reinvent himself. In the end, it is more of a self-serving wannabe paean than a real documentary. I gave it three stars because it is fascinating to watch Snoop talk about himself and his past and there is at least the appearance of some genuine insight during some...

Love Sick Love [HD]

I LOVE YOU NORMAN
The film opens with first person narration from Dori (Katia Winter) who talks about love. She has apparently met Mr. Right in Norman (Matthew Settle). They have an intimate relationship she reads too much into. Norman agrees to a long weekend getaway to a secluded home up north. Here Norman is surprised by Dori's two children and grandparents. Things turn sour after Dori says the dreaded "L" word and we soon see Norman in the tied up condition depicted on the cover.

Dori abides by a relationship book that claims you have to experience all the holidays with each other, which she quickly does in June, with her family considering the odd behavior normal.

This is indeed a quirky film, one for women who have grown tired of bad relationships. It is an impressive indie which oozed with dark comedy and ironic statements. Great date night film.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex, brief nudity (Katia Winter)

Grrrrrrrreat
I saw this film at the St. Louis Film Festival and totally enjoyed it from begininng to end. Beautiful young mom finds handsome young partner thought it was going to be a love story, turns out to have it all, love, horror, suspense and comedic chaos. Definitely worth seeing. One of my favorite scenes was when Albert recounts and reminds Norman about the specific profanities he used and how many times he used them.

best "fatal attraction" movie ever!
It is a "fatal attraction" movie with romance, dark comedy and different ending. I know some people won't like it but I loved it.

Attenberg

A Greek Coming-Of-Age Tale That Benefits From An Unorthodox Tone, But Kept Me Emotionally Distanced
The Greek oddity "Attenberg" by Athina Rachel Tsangari made me laugh almost instantly with its opening kissing sequence which managed to be both hilarious and strangely unsettling. This unorthodox coming-of-age story concerns a young woman in a coastal village who has never had to adapt to the harsh realities of the world around her. Her existence is relatively insular. She spends time goofing off with her best gal pal, clowning with her father, and doing an occasional driving job. She lacks focus. On the surface, it seems that "Attenberg" is going to be comedic, but there is much seriousness layered throughout. Within a short period of time, our heroine must come to terms with illness, mortality and romance. And it's the tone with which the picture approaches these topics that makes it particularly unique. Everything is so dry, so matter-of-fact, so deadpan. There is no emotional grandstanding and not many big moments, but we see the subtle shifts that start to formulate a...

Attenberg
[[ASIN:B007HC8E7U Attenberg]

The film is visually stunning, unique, and brave in that it doesn't simply show a life, a history, or a particular point of view. It is directed by a woman I've never heard of before, takes place in Greece and doesn't depend on dialogue to tell a story. You see it, hear it, feel it and can almost touch it....... just as you can in real life. I love the silence, the lack of an orchestrated soundtrack, the songs by Suicide (a Psychobilly Band). There are no action sequences, special effects, or 3-D because it doesn't need it. You are not given any clues and it doesn't tell you how to feel or react. I think I can safely say that most people in the Northern Hemisphere would not like this film; which makes it very special indeed. What higher praise can I give it? This film could not, would not, ever be made in America. Now that the world is splattered with Starbucks, Mcdonald's, KFC, smart phones and the internet it is wonderful to see a film that...

Moving father-daughter relationship drama
I recently saw that 2009 film from Greece named Dogtooth, and really liked it. I decided to check out some more movies in the same vein, which lead me to this one (the director of Dogtooth is a co-producer and one of the main acotrs in this one).

"Attenberg" (2010 release from Greece; 94 min.) brings the story of Marine, a 23 yr. old misfit who feels alienated from everyone and everything. In fact, her only solace seems to be to watch Sir David Attenborough's nature documentaries. Her "circle" exists of her best friend Bella (who refers to Sir David as "Attenberg"), and Marina's dad Styros, an architect whom we later learn has a terminal illness. Marina also gets to know the (nameless) engineer from out of town whom she chauffeurs around and to whom she becomes attracted. To tell you much more of the plot would ruin your viewing experience, you'll just have to see for yourself how it all plays out.

Seceral comments: first and foremost, this is a very touching...

1911 [HD]

1911 Revolution
Dynamic actor Jackie Chan is working hard in trying to leave a firm and strong legacy in Chinese cinema and cinema in general. Perhaps he wants to demonstrate that his talents are not exclusively in martial arts films and comedies, but also in dramatic roles. And I'm happy to say that he successfully does that in "1911 Revolution," a formidable and epic film about one of China's defining moments in its tortured history. Historical movies just don't get better than this.

The film opens with the execution of Qiu Jin, in Shaoxing. She was a member of the Tongmenghui, a revolutionary council that wanted to end the imperial government. We are then taken to San Francisco, on April 26, 1911, when Dr. Sun Yat-Sen (Winston Chao) is speaking at a fundraiser to the Chinese community in that city, in order that money could be collected for the revolutionary army that was fighting the Qing Dynasty. It was thought, we learn, that "overseas Chinese people were the mothers of the...

I enjoyed it, but not because it's a great movie
I'm a world history teacher, and I am going to China later this summer for a three-week vacation/adventure. I spent a lot of time in my class covering Chinese history, so it was only natural that I would watch this. I enjoyed it a lot - but mostly because I was familiar with the basics of the material it covered. Otherwise, I would have been totally lost. The plot concerns how Sun Yat Sen and his followers fight a lot of battles to defeat the corrupt Qing dynasty and establish a Chinese republic. There's a little more to it, but not much. This is not really a martial arts movie, nor a real drama, but a curious mix of those things and a documentary.

What you get is a lot of hagiography about Sun Yat-Sen, and a lot of battles. The film is most certainly propaganda for the current regime in China, even it is somewhat veiled. Many historical figures are introduced and then. . . they disappear from view. I suspect a Chinese viewer would probably get a lot more out of it than a...

That's not the real run time
The run time for this movie is actually about 118 minutes, but the US Blu-Ray version is only 99 minutes. Why the heck is that? Other than that, the movie was still good, but should have been 240 minutes, extending all the battle sequences in the movie

Abbott and Lennie are two garbage men who have been working together for 13 years and who pick up trash in Beverly Hills. Lenny in particular is a celebrity worshipper and finds his route, which includes the mansions of many of the stars, to be fascinating. One day upon dumping their trash at the landfill, Lenny discovers an Oscar belonging to Cuba Gooding, Jr. He and Abbott take the Oscar back to the office of the trash-collecting company.

Soon word gets out and Abbott and Lenny become instant celebrities. An agent contacts them and sets up numerous interviews (including one with Oprah). Enduring fame seems certain, especially when they are scheduled to go to Cuba Gooding's house to hand over the Oscar (while the TV cameras roll). So certain is Lenny his fame is going to make him wealthy that he hands in his resignation to his boss (who gives him a going-away party).

Fun, fast paced & original!! A well layered story with a Fabulously captivating ensemble cast & stand out performances from all the leads!!!!

Not a good movie
I didn't really think this was going to be a good movie, but thought I would give it a shot. The story was ridiculous to begin with and the two brothers, with their incessant bickering and witless banter, became downright annoying early on. The ending was as ludicrous as the start. Coupled with the poor acting, I would not recommend this movie.

Sister Act [HD]

Nun Too Many, Nun Too Few
What can I say? This is quite possibly the best movie I have ever seen, and I'm sure I'm not the only one saying this.

The story is about a Reno lounge singer named Deloris Van Cartier (Whoopi Goldberg) whose singing career is going straight down the toilet. But that's before the fateful night when Deloris witnesses her married mobster boyfriend, Vince LaRocca (Harvey Keitel), viciously murder an unloyal employee. She then runs to the police, where they ask her to testify against Vince, but she knows he'll come after her when she does. The police then tell her that they can stash her in the safest place on Earth if she testifies--a convent. Deloris reluctantly agrees, but quickly finds that the convent is no place for a loud Reno lounge singer. But just when it can't get any worse, Deloris discovers the horrible, out-of-synch Sunday choir, and soon realizes she was destined to stumble into this convent.

The cast is brilliant; the hilarious Kathy Najimy stars...

A part absolutely made for Whoopi Goldberg
I didn't expect to like this movie when my husband brought it home one Friday night - but I was wrong, wrong, wrong. It's hilarious, uplifting, and entertainint.
Goldberg plays a Reno casino singer who gets in trouble with the mob and hides out disguised as a nun in a teaching convent. Maggie Smith, every twitch and blink in place, plays the mother superior who must cope with Goldberg's high jinks as she energises the convent, its choir, its students, and her own life. And, omigod! The music! You'll want the soundtrack when you've finished watching the movie.
A feel good movie to die for.

I can't be torn apart from my God!!!!
Nothing you can buy could make me tell a lie to my God! This is Whoopi's best movie ever! My cousin and I were constantly singing the songs everywhere we went. One my favorite movies of ALL time. I wish they would come out with a DVD that contained more extra features though.

Sports with an underlying theme
While the movie focuses on Checkers (or Draughts as some parts of the world call it I learned), there is an underlying and strong message about societal divides. The apartheid which ended not long ago in South Africa still has deep effects on the population, and you see it first hand in this excellent documentary. The biggest question it brings up for me is how much do we help those who need it? I think the answer provided, which is a good one, is that if you give someone a boost, they will do the rest! A great movie!

The Power Of Few

Left-of-center movie is worth checking out
Imagine my surprise when out of the blue and without any advance marketing of any kind, this movie showed up on just two screens here in Cincinnati recently. I figured there was no way this would play very long here (and I was right, the movie was gone after one week), so I went to see it right away.

"The Power of Few" (2013 release; 95 min.) brings the same 20 min. in an early afternoon in New Orleans, but brought from multiple (five, actually) perspectives, and how these intersecting stories play out/touch on each other/collide (literally). Given that you watch the "same" 20 minutes five times over the course of the movie, there is no point in even trying to bring an introduction of the movie's plot. Let's just say that blood WILL be spilled at this particular New Orleans intersection.

Several comments: it's amazing what an all-star cast is attached to this movie, starting of course with Christopher Walken as a homeless man with a secret. I don't recall ever...

Good fun movie
I enjoyed watching this movie. It was great fun, and not your normal, predictable garbage film that is so pervasive. I really like Christopher Walken he is a riot. He does a great job with his character, and delivers a funny performance that is full of dry humor.

A movie that shows the same event from many different perspectives. I love movies like this. This one is very good. I say B
"Have you ever bit the inside of your cheek?" A stolen religious artifact, a baby who needs medicine, a delivery driver who meets a man on the run from a gang, two agents looking for someone and two homeless men all become connected in one tragic event. This is the kind of movie where a series of events connect groups of people that otherwise have nothing in common. This one event is shown from everyone's point of view and how one person can change everything. I love movies like this. Movies that show the same event from many different perspectives. No movie has done it better then Rashomon but there have been many attempts since then. Most recently movies like Crash, 11:14 and Vantage Point have all used this style of filmmaking. I have enjoyed all those movies and I enjoyed this one as well. The only problem I had with this one is that some of the stories went on a little long and started to slow the movie down, but overall the movie was enjoyable and really keeps you watching and...

Was a bit disappointed since I am from Oconomowoc. Zero ending as though they stopped mid-story because they ran out of film budget so no conclusion. Humor is dry which I like but very very sparse. Reason I didn't give 2 stars is again bc I'm from there so pride couldn't let me do it.

American Dream

A haunting film...
This movie is so dramatically powerful, it's hard to believe it's real life. It's the devastating story of what happens to a small town when it's only industry turns against it. The characters are larger-than-life and the movie sticks with you long after it's over. The viewer is taken on an emotional roller coaster ride from the hopeful beginnings of the strike to the crushing end. Having family in Austin, MN (where the film takes place), I can say that this movie hits the nail on the head all too well. See this film. It's a truly moving experience.

An excellent film about the evolution and effect a strike
This documentary traces the development of labor unrest at a company that is planning to make substantial reductions in employees' pay. The story is told primarily from the employees' viewpoint, and includes elements of corporate campaigning, local versus international union politics, internal politics, the strike, and loss of employees' jobs. The human perspective is fully developed including emotional peaks and valleys, the strife within families, the decay of relationships between workers, and the the affect on the community.

The documentary is extremely well filmed and very moving.

Powerful document... but be warned...
Though it doesnt achieve the dramatic heights of "Harlan County, USA" this film is nonetheless a moving and disturbing document of workers and unions in battle with management, organized labor, and themselves. I have to believe that the person below who cheered the "crushing victory" of management over people who want "to earn more for doing less" was joking. This is a film about meat packers, a thoroughly disgusting job if there ever was one, who try to organize against the Hormel company, which is trying to slash their wages by $2 (It seems to me like management wants to pay the workers less for doing more). Unlike Harlan County, USA, though, the conflict of this film is mostly within the ranks of labor. The battle between international and local unions and between different strategies is what ultimately undermines the the worker's chances for success. A cheery film this is not, but an important one that anyone who cares about our...

Manborg

An Intentionally Campy Sci-Fi Spoof That Achieves Its Modest Goals, But Shouldn't Be Oversold
The ZERO budget sci-fi spoof "Manborg" is going to be one of those movies, I suspect, that will really divide its audience. Rumored to have been made for a couple of grand (at most), this tiny indie aims at mocking the action/adventure epics that proliferated in the eighties with a distinct video game aesthetic. I always worry when I see these extreme indies proclaimed as the "best movie ever" by enthusiastic supporters. Despite their inherent charms, setting such a lofty bar BEFORE someone sees the film might just be skewing expectations rather high. This is an underground film that is meant to be discovered and appreciated by the right audience. It will never be a mainstream hit. And whether you love "Manborg" or hate it (and there will be many in both camps), it's probably a film that is better served by NOT overselling it. Personally, I'm super impressed that filmmaker Steven Kostanski put this project together on the cheap. He attempts and achieves a film that might easily be the...

American Mary

American Mary Will Modify Your Soul
What happens when life doesn't go as planned? When the simple expectations that we set for ourselves and others fall way below acceptable standards? Many of us end up lost, wandering in a haze of confusion and misdirection that, if left unchecked, can put us on a destructive course that we may never recover from. The real world is cold, harsh, and unforgiving, though we are brought up to believe otherwise. This simple and unwavering fact lies at the core of Jen and Sylvia Soska's new film "American Mary".

Mary Mason is a medical student, a starving medical student more to the point. She is alone in the big city, trying her best to survive her schooling which brings the promise of a well-paying career. She is dedicated and enthusiastic, but also a little bit desperate. The world seems to be closing in on her from all sides, Proctors on one end and bill collectors on the other. With no other alternatives, Mary seeks a job as an exotic dancer, after all, the money's good and...

This Movie is Great
I really didn't expect it to be as great as I thought it was going to be. I honestly would consider it to be a feminist horror film, as far as horror films go, and it is incredible with how it portrays body modification in terms of how it can horrify and entice the audience. There are a few moments where it feels very strange, in the scenes with the surgeons, but they're supposed to be off-putting and you're supposed to know that something is wrong with them. If you want a rape revenge film that does not sexualize violence against women while focusing entirely on how the woman responds to the rape. It does have very disturbing imagery, so if you are unable to take rape scenes at all or take images of mutilated bodies, then this probably isn't for you. If you can stomach it, it won't disappoint.

One of my Favorite films
Quick shipping and easy ordering.

I would say I am a horror movie fanatic, good or bad I watch it. When I first saw previews for this movie I was intrigued by the lead character, Mary. It seemed pretty badass for a woman to be the lead of a movie where at first (in previews) she is introduced as a slasher surgeon, but as the movie proceeds you find that she isnt some scapulae wielding psychopath, she is a victim at the hands of a instructor, and from there, well you know the saying, "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". I would say yes, she might get out of hand on a unsuspecting security guard, but the beauty and mystery to her character is so deep.

Twisted Sister Production and Feature!!!! <3 <3 A must see for horror movie buffs.

Cleopatra's Second Husband [HD]

Darkly Compelling
This is a fascinating look at the dark turns unhealthy relationships can take. This low budget film, written and directed by Jon Reiss, starts off innocuously enough. Robert (Paul Hipp) and Halle (Bitty Schram) are a rather boring, yuppyish LA couple. Halle is domineering in a whiny sort of way; her husband is submissive in a detached sort of way. This fact does not seem very interesting at the outset, but it sets the stage for the rest of the film's bizarre developments. Paul and Halle go on vacation and entrust their house to the care of another couple, Zach (Boyd Kestner) and Sophie (Radha Mitchell). Those of us who have seen any psychological thrillers know that this is a fatal mistake, but Paul and Halle are preoccupied with their own issues. Theirs is a passionless marriage; Halle regulates their sex life based on her ovulation cycles. Paul, meanwhile, is trying to jumpstart a fledgling career as a photographer. He is also a hypochondriac who constantly downs herbal remedies...

Unexpected, twisted little gem
Full disclosure: I rented this film because a former boyfriend of mine was the director of photography and I was curious to see what he'd been up to. For a low-budget film, it is gorgeously filmed (good job, Matt Faw!) and well acted. Given the title and the word "erotic" on the cover, I was expecting the plot to evolve into a kinky threesome, but instead its twistedness takes a whole different route. It starts out normally enough: a couple who's stressed out from trying to get pregnant takes a vacation and allows another couple they don't really know to house-sit. When they get back, the house-sitters won't leave. The mind-games quickly escalate and eventually turn violent and unexpectedly (but very inventively) sadistic. Not a date movie, but definitely worth watching if you like odd, twisted, offbeat films. (And the director's commentary only added to my appreciation of the cast and crew's achievement.)

Peculiar amalgam of other films
The first half of this film actually works well because the dynamics of the two couples portrayed are sizzling, punchy, and smart. One of them is a yuppie duo made up of a photographer obsessed with somewhat creepy subjects, and his wife who's equally compulsive in her behavior about trying to become pregnant. These two obvious uptighters are paired off against a couple who are the obvious opposite--wild with enormous libidos, selfish, and inconsiderate.

It's when the film progresses to the dynamics of the two men alone that it encounters serious problems. The interaction here is much too forced, contrived; there's a lot of treading water here, but the water is pseudo-water and the treading is thrashing about without a reason. After all, why thrash around in water that's not even water? Without giving away the plot points here, it's just not credible that the dominant one of this male pair would continue to accept the ministrations of the other man after a major problem arises...

Glory Road [HD]

BEFORE UTEP, THERE WAS TEXAS WESTERN....!! 2006 ESPY Winner !!
Five MOMENTOUS Stars!! A Great Movie!! "Glory Road" tells the true story, with much dramatic license along the way, of one of sport's greatest moments. A moment that changed the face and color of college basketball and rippled across all sports. It's the story of a little known college basketball coach, Don Haskins, and how he came to be the coach of little known Texas Western College in El Paso, Texas. It's also the story of the black players who would be recruited from all around the USA to eventually wind up playing in one of the greatest moments in college basketball: David "Daddy D" Lattin, Nevil Shed, Willie Cager, Orsten Artis, "Wee" Willie Worsley, Harry Flournoy, and of course the late floor general, Bobby Joe Hill. And the other team members played their vital roles also: Jerry Armstrong, Louis Baudoin, Dick Meyers, Togo Railey and David Palacio. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer does a wonderful job of bringing back the singular moment of the all-white Kentucky team under Adolph...

A very fine historic sports movie
Glory Road is the true story of Texas college basketball coach Dan Haskins.

In 1965, white players dominated college basketball and a predominantly black team was just not even thought of, especially in Klan infested Southern states.

The coach assists his Texas-Western players in breaking down race relation obstacles still grasping the nation and even more brazenly evident in violent Jim Crow South.

Coach Haskins drives all his players, both on the court, and demands more then passing academic grades in the classroom as well.

Classic Soul and R & B music of the mid-1960's era play a key part through out this well made picture.

"The incredible story of the team that changed the game forever / Based on a true story"

Great Portrayal of The "Greatest Upset in College Basketball History"
"Glory Road" tells the story of the Texas Western Miners, a college basketball team who won the NCAA Championship in 1966. But this wasn't just an ordinary championship, no, for the starting line-up in the championship game was all Black players, a thing that was unheard of in '66. Or better yet, even a black player being recruited by a college team was out of the ordinary. However, the 36 year old coach Don Haskins recruited seven Black players for his Texas Western team (when the season begins, he starts three of those players). The team was barely even thought of in the college world before then, then with the help of the seven black players, they went on to win the championship.

The movie opens with a girls basketball game, and you see that Don Haskins coaches girl's basketball. Later on, he is asked to coach Division 1 basketball, for the Texas Western team (with one drawback; he would have to live in the dorm room with his wife and kids). Then, he sets out to recruit...

Very interesting movie
I love Troian Bellisario which is mostly why I ordered this movie. I loved the movie but I thought the ending could have been better. It left too much unsaid but maybe that the goal of the writers. I don't know if it was actually worth $10 but I'm happy I ordered it.

Hauntingly Beautiful
This movie is so amazing; the acting is phenomenal. Troian Bellisario and Peter Vack, as well as the other actors, are great. It is very dramatic and intense, but so interesting. Like the title for this review, it is hauntingly beautiful. The story is so intense, haunting, and sad, but it is beautiful at the same time. The movie is mostly about the relationship between the two siblings and how their sister's suicide affected them. The younger sister turned to sex and drugs for comfort, while the brother turned to drugs and drinking. They also turned to each other for comfort. Just a great movie overall, but definitely not for everyone.

crummy
Save your money on this turkey. There are no redeeming features of this film. I am unable to think of any reason why this film was made.

Missed Connections

Waiting for the good ....
There's a limit to the suspension of disbelief which this movie crosses. A girl who is wrapped up in another, a guy who wants her, but then there's that moment when you realize, hey, she's not that great. Pretty and tall and blonde. Okay. But where'd that big heart go? It's referenced in the movie, but never shown. You know they'll end up together in the end because, hell, it's a movie. But does she deserve him? The movie doesn't prove that to be the case. Could've been much better.

Doesn't quite make it
I wanted a romantic comedy for a "Girls' Night In" with my mom and sister. The preview looked interesting. I like independent movies, and saw that it had done well at several festivals. But this movie was not what I had expected. There wasn't any energy in the script, the actors were just saying their lines. No chemistry apparent between the actors, either. From the opening scenes, it felt amateurish and lacking depth.

Painfully Terrible
I managed to get through maybe the first 5 minutes. Typically I give things more of a chance, but it was just so painful. I felt like I was watching a terrible remake of a Sex and the City episode mixed with He's Just Not That Into You, Part 5.

Some may say I should have kept watching a bit longer, but I'm pretty confident in my decision.

I wish that you could receive a refund if a movie is so terrible you can't even last 10 minutes. Oh well.

All Over the Guy [HD]

The course of true love, whatever kind
A straight couple (Sasha Alexander and Adam Goldberg) set up their respective best friends, both gay (Dan Bucatinsky and Richard Ruccolo) on a blind date. While the straight romance goes swimmingly along the gay couple lurches from crisis to crisis. Dan Bucatinsky, the star, also wrote and produced this romantic comedy-drama. There are many side-splitting scenes and great one-liners--the two men's disastrous first date, where they seem to have absolutely nothing in common, is especially on-target. The more serious scenes between Bucatinsky and Ruccolo, as they start to realize that they _do_ love one another after all, don't work as well, the dialogue lapsing into clichés. There is also too much glib pop psychological explanation as to why the two guys are so dysfunctional with regard to relationships. Still, with the talents of actors such as Lisa Kudrow, Cristina Ricci and Doris Roberts in supporting roles, this movie kept me continually laughing and entertained for the...

Another Fine Gay Film
It's great to see more and more fine portrayals of the gay community be presented so eloquently and thoughtfully on the silver screen. Last year's excellent "Broken Hearts Club" exemplified itself as a pristine presentation of a group of gay twentysomethings living in California. That story was touching, funny, and brilliantly well-crafted. Now we have "All Over the Guy." This film is a bit more intense (as it is funny) as two handsome gay men come to terms in establishing a relationship through the turbulent waters of dating and occasionally "running into one another" through their mutual heterosexual friends. This fine film stars Richard Ruccolo (of ABC's now cancelled "Two Guys & A Girl") and real-life gay screenwriter Dan Bucatinsky. Both leads are believable as they attempt at finding meaning with their on-again, off-again relationship. Their heterosexual counterparts (the ever-funny Adam Goldberg, and the beautiful, talented Sasha...

Not the best, but I still bought the DVD
Yes, I really liked this movie; it is, in the end, another addition to the feel-good gay relationship movie library. I thought the actors were very good and mostly believable; I enjoyed seeing a gay couple exhibited as having the same problems in their relationships as straight couples, I enjoyed the straight sidekicks--without whom the movie would not have been complete.

But then, on the other hand, we have another movie that is set in the la-la land of "all gay guys are good looking;" "all gay guys have unlimited witty one-liners;" "all gay guys have a best friend who is straight;" "all gay guys have their own great apartments surrounded by great neighbors;" and, the one I love the most, "gay relationships blossom out of no shared interests between the partners." So as a date movie I think it's great, and I own the DVD, because I liked it that much. But then there's that undeniably present and depressing feeling we'll all get...

The Rabbi's Cat [HD]

Visually Splendid Animation Attached to Philosophy Lessons
I offer a litmus test. If you adored Sylvain Chomet's "Triplets of Belleville" but were bored with "The Illusionist", this film won't work for you. Myself, I thought the colors and drawings were artistically incredible ... something like Arabic or Hindu painted miniatures. Alas, there really is not much of a story. It is instead a tale of a journey by a rabbi, his voluptuous daughter, an Arab sheikh, and a Russian who are searching for a hidden Jerusalem in Ethiopia where Blacks and Jews co-exist in peace. Along for the ride is the rabbi's "talking cat" - a creature which loves arguing and commenting on everything when he's not being pampered by the rabbi's daughter. Since the rabbi is a religious man, they discuss differences in customs and spirituality and beliefs...and why that matters.

The half of the film that take place in Algiers, 1920 is simply stunning. Beautiful blue pools, Persian carpets, exotic buildings, and mosaic tiles. For that alone, I give it 4...

Funny And Entertaining: A Smart And Sophisticated Animated Gem For Adults
Although released under the GKIDS label, I'm going to start out by saying that "The Rabbi's Cat" is not an animated feature for children. It is undeniably geared toward adults or, at least, teens with an awareness of the world around them. The film discusses religion, racism, and violence and is thought-provoking in a surprisingly comedic way. This feature won the César Award in France for Best Animated Film and is based on Joann Sfar's series of graphic novels. Truthfully, without knowing anything about the movie, I really didn't have a strong desire to see it. I imagined the worst when I read about a talking cat offering wit and insight into a myriad of weighty topics. But I'll watch anything, you never know where that next great surprise is going to come from! Well, for me, this was it! I absolutely loved "The Rabbi's Cat!" The movie is smart, silly, sophisticated, and scathing. There is much to admire in this 89 minute movie, and the DVD/Blu-Ray also boasts some...

A Truly Charming Animated Feature Film
The Rabbi's Cat is a truly charming animated film. The story follows an elder Rabbi and his daughter living in the Sephardic Jewish community in pre-World War 2 Algeria. The eponymous cat develops the ability to speak upon devouring the Rabbi's prized Parrot and proceeds to cause no end of mischief for the family and the surrounding community.

For fans of the graphic novel by Sfar, the film stays absolutely loyal to the look, feel, and theme of the original. The film has cut some plot-lines and characters in order to fit within the standard length of a two hour movie, but this hurts the narrative much less than one might think.

The Rabbi's Cat is ultimately about identity, religion, and ethnicity and how the contradictions within those boundaries ultimately define us as people. The fim is targeted at adults with the religious and historical that are too complicated for younger children. Overall, a great film from beginning to end.

Revenge For Jolly [HD]

I'M A GOOD GUY WHO HAS DONE BAD THINGS
This is a quirky dark comedy that is rather pointless and moves slow. In spite of that I found myself enjoying the characters and the scenes.

After an all night visit of Harry (Brian Petsos) with his cousin Cecil (Oscar Isaac) drinking beers and playing Candyland, the unkempt Harry comes to find that his dog Jolly, the love of his life, has committed a "Philadelphia suicide." Clearly Harry has made someone angry, a conversation of which we get bits and pieces. Our beer drinking, pill popping, dreary eyed, greasy haired twosome set out to find the killer, leaving a trail of blood as they go.

I found myself laughing at this low budget Redbox rental. This is not Tarantino grade dark comedy, but clearly he was an influence. Enjoyable, slow at times, especially the beginning. Things pick up about the time Elijah Wood enters the film. Well worth a rental. Will add to my collection when the price drops.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex. No nudity.

I WANT REVENGE ON THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THIS
There are good movies and there are bad movies. Good movies you enjoy over and over again. Bad movies you sit through and then say well that was bad, I won't bother with this one again. And then there are movies like this one. Movies where you think of them as so terrible that you want to find the folks responsible for it to slap them around and demand not just your money back but the time that you lost of your life in watching it, just wishing something good would come about. When it doesn't you find yourself doing what I did: you scream at the TV wondering why oh why you didn't just pull the DVD out of the machine sooner and just toss it out the door like an unwanted Frisbee. What makes it even worse is when you see the names of well known actors in the film. There are only three reasons this could be:
1) They thought it was good in which case you will never trust another film they make.
2) They got paid tons of money to be in it which in this case is doubtful as the...

Fun ride not a serious film
The main character loves his dog and the dog is murdered. He and his friend who frequents the psych ward go off to find the killer. It is a fun film for those who like dogs and violence. Mainly gun violence no real gore. The cameos were fun. I especially liked the Ellijah Woods cameo.

Mama (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy + UltraViolet)

Nobody puts Mama in the corner!
Before I purchased this movie, I read a number of critic reviews and found them to be extremely mixed. Many critics liked the film; many disliked it. All called it derivative.

I can't say I agree. I really enjoyed this little creeper of a film! It may not be the best horror film in the whole wild world, but it certainly scared the crap out of me and my girlfriend. That's not bad for a PG-13 movie!

The story goes that a father goes on a murderous rampage, then kills his estranged wife and naps his two daughters. He drives off at crazy speeds and spins off the road. Surviving the accident, he wanders with his daughters through a cold, isolated woods until he discovers a seemingly unused cabin.

Flash forward five years. The kids' uncle has been looking for them all these years, and his investigators find them still living in the cabin; daddy is nowhere to be found. How the heck did those two little feral girls survive all that time on their own...

Good acting, a monster that I don't see too little, good effects and a story I can swallow...we have a winner!
Good acting, a monster that I don't see too little, good effects (even if it is all just CGI) and a story I can swallow...we have a winner! This movie is nothing epic nor did it have the best scares I've seen in a while, but it's a horror movie that "works."

First time feature director Andrés Muschietti (writer/director of the short film Mamá) does a solid job with atmosphere and "creepy." The story gets moving when two orphaned girls are discovered in an abandoned cabin in the woods after five years somehow surviving on their own (now they're about 9 and 7 years old-ish). Their eyes are cold and scared yet somehow predatory, their hair and skin far beyond wildly filthy, and their movement is so unnatural that it reminds me more of a Silent Hill monster than an animal. More disturbing was the degeneration of their oral skills with the exception of whispering "mama."

Much to my surprise, the maternal poltergeist Mama was not a kept mystery...

"Mama, just killed a man"
Mama is a good semi-creepy horror movie about two young children who spend five years alone in the woods and are later found and adopted by their uncle (the Kingslayer actor from Game of Thrones) and his wife (the always great Jessica Chastain in full goth mode, trading in her trademark red hair for black and sporting tattoos). Of course, something the children call "Mama" comes home with them and thus the horror begins. Maybe a little too much CGI used, but most of it looked okay. All in all, this is a well made ghost story that packs a few scares and has good acting throughout.

Clash of the Titans [Blu-ray Steelbook]

Great Special Effects, Short On Story
Never mind that Clash of the Titans play fast and loose with the mythological story of Perseus. Never mind that Medusa wasn't a Titan. Never mind that the Kraken is from Scandinavian mythology, and that casting Lawrence Olivier as Zeus in the 1981 version was sort of typecasting.

The new Clash of the Titans is a darker, grittier more realistic Bronze age world than the 1981 version, but the story hasn`t changed all that much. The citizens of Argos have become disenchanted with the rule of the Gods. The Gods have caused too much chaos and ruin to their lives so they've decided to take their destinies into their own hands, and destroy the temples and statues of the Gods. In doing so, Perseus'(Sam Worthington) family is killed by a falling statue of Zeus. When Zeus (Liam Neeson) learns of the desecration urged on by Hades (Ralph Fiennes), he decides to destroy the city in four days or they can offer the sacrifice of the King of Argos' daughter Andromeda (Alexa Davalos). In a...

Excellent movie needs EXCELLENT 3D
I bought this movie when we bought our 3D tv last year. Honestly, it wouldn't have been my first choice of 3D movies, but when we bought it, there were only a handful of movies available in 3D, which were mostly documentaries, and of course we had to buy a few movies to properly try out our new toy. So mostly due to lack of other options, we purchased this one.

I am very pleased to say that what I expected to be a movie filled with too much action (I expected mostly fighting and effects with no real plot) was actually fantastic! It's now one of my favorites, especially as I now have it synced onto my iPod and iPad (thank you digital copy!), so I can watch it any time or place I'd like.

The 3D is incredible! The picture and sound are very realistic (on every version of the movie, even DVD). I was very impressed.
However, if you are expecting an "old time" movie theatre 3D, you will not find that here. The 3D in this movie is not where the images jump off...

"Release the Kraken!"
I'm usually fairly easy going when it comes to popcorn flicks that serve no real purpose except to exist as breezy, silly fun. I love The Mummy and The Mask of Zorro, Pirates of the Caribbean and Sherlock Holmes, particularly since you can tell the writers, cast and crew have embraced the idea of making a film that has sheer entertainment as its fundamental goal. These types of movies have been around for a long time, not excepting the original Clash of the Titans film. Sometimes you're just in the mood to sit back, turn off your brain, and enjoy the action that unfolds in front of you.

But then there are movies that...

A Company Of Heroes

Young men frotunate to have grown old . . .
Perhaps being an Army Brat and remembering the 'stories' of WWII makes this all the more poignant. To listen to these men recount their memories is to recognize the bonds formed during combat. Friendship and trust that has remained through the years and been passed on to their children and grandchildren. Their training began in Georgia and saw them through places that have been immortalized in films . . . 'A Bridge Too Far?' Yes, Operation Market Garden was a reality for these men. Their stories allow one to follow their path from army training, airborne training at Ft. Benning, Georgia, even more training in England, their landing at Normandy, and finally 'back home.' These men should be listened to for they have so much to share. The narrative is well done, includes interviews and photographs. Listen, if you will, and remember!

True Heroes
I really enjoyed the commentary by the soldiers that lived through the war years in combat. I recommend this to all veterans...

Save Yourself [HD]

Season Five is Fantastic!
The Bon Temps gang returns for the fifth season of HBO's "True Blood". I am a colossal fan of the show, having seen every episode since the pilot. Like every show, "True Blood" has had a few ups and downs in terms of writing. Seasons one and two were the show at its best, in my opinion. Season three was a lot of fun, but suffered from cluttered storylines and tonal problems. But, season four -- although it still can't top season one or two -- was a solid return to form (and I can't understand the bashing it regularly receives on here from other fans).

So, how does season five compare? I found this year to be even better than the last; the most compelling reason for this is the fundamental shaking up of all things comfortable and familiar on the show. All of the close relationships have been compromised or changed or they've grown apart: Sookie/Bill/Eric, Sookie/Tara, Pam/Eric, Jason/Hoyt, Tara/Lafayette, etc. This was the year of the Break Up (friendships as well as...

Starting to Lose Interest
I've been a fan of True Blood since the beginning, but this past season has begun to test my loyalty. The seasonal villain is too far-fetched. I know the characters are vampires, but it would be nice to see even one of them maintain a successful relationship. If this keeps up, we're going to need a flow chart just to keep up with who is sleeping with whom and who is now a vampire and who is still human. I still have hopes for the new season, but I'm only cautiously optimistic.

Gotten Out of Hand
I've read the books, and this season is totally out of control. I still like the series though (go Eric!), but I think this season is totally antithetical to the books. On one hand, it's the unexpected that makes for great TV. On the other hand, I wonder if the show is lacking the author's original intent. Without giving too much away, I'm looking forward to season six, but I'm wondering if this season's finale dug the show into a hole that it just can't get out of. No one who's read the books can envision Bill as the bad guy.

Alyce Kills [HD]

Alyce in LaLaLand
Just watched this on demand and really enjoyed it.It was different from most of the horror films coming out as of late.In a good way.Alyce played by Jade Dornfeld is quite the interesting character and I couldn't take my eyes off of her.Her eyes were unreadable which in itself is frightening because you never know if she's going to pet or bite you. I never really figured out her true motives for doing everything that she did but that's ok because it was so much fun tagging along with her on her journey.
Her relationship with Carroll played by Tamara Feldman was at first playful and almost like she was in love with her then Alyce & Carroll get high on X and Alyce pushes Carroll off the roof of her apartment building leaving Carroll very jacked up to say the least, the make up was great. After the accident Alyce goes into a drug induced stupor and loses it.She does some really strange and unthinkable things and we meet some very interesting characters. The film has surrealism in it...

WHAT WOULD CARROLL DO?
This horror/thriller sets up as a symbol/metaphor for "Alice in Wonderland." There are numerous hints to connect the two within the film including the song, "White Rabbit" which we hear early in the film. This was originally released in 2011 with the title of "Alyce." The addition of the word "Kills" detracts from the metaphor, most likely done by a marketing firm more interested in sales than dark art.

Alyce (Jade Dornfeld) has work and rent issues. She opts to go party with her best friend Carroll, as in Lewis Carroll (Tamara Feldman). They are very similar...like Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee. Alyce is clearly the follower of the two as she was known as SWF. Their desire to party and do drugs escalates until the point of no return.

Alyce descends further into the world of drugs and madness. At one point she swaps sex for ecstasy with a man who is symbolically the Mad Hatter. Then the film goes over the top as the thriller turns into horror.

This was...

Slow Burn
Alyce Kills is well done sexy and violent. Jade Dornfeld is terrific in her role of girl going crazy or maybe she already was all along. The film has three distinct sections and the look and feel changes from fun to tragedy to all out F'd up gore. One of my new favorites..

Assassin

Good movie, but no subtitles
The movie was good even though I don't speak the language they're speaking (I'm assuming it's Korean). Like any action movie, you don't need to understand it to understand the basic premise, though subtitles would have been nice.

Huh??
It appears it may be a good movie, however I wouldn't know because there are no subtitles, THAT SUCKS !!

AMAZON FAIL
Unwatchable.

If you don't speak an Asian language then don't attempt to watch this film (if I knew which one I'd tell you.).

Amazon needs to 1) inform customers of the film's spoken language and 2) offer English subtitles to its English-speaking customers (as any theater in the U.S. would).

So far watching foreign films on Amazon is a hit and miss affair. First one had subtitles this one doesn't. My rating of this movie is directed purely at the Amazon experience.

The Last Stand

Really good movie
I am surprised that this movie didn't do better at the box office, but I think it was up against stiff competition at the time. I think it was a really good movie and I sure wouldn't mind seeing it again and owning it. Arnold's still got it! A lot of good action with unlikely heroes....some incredible car chase scenes... good plot, and some good laughs, too. I really wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did, but was pleasantly surprised! Way to go, Arnold!!! Looking forward to your next project!

3 1/2 stars for a fun time with Arnold back in action
I remember weeks ago seeing back-to-back trailers for this film and Sylvester Stallone's "Bullet to the Head." Sly's film looked ridiculous and stupid, not to mention he is after thugs that took his daughter. How original. But then Arnold's movie trailer comes on and it seems pretty clear we are going to get good guys and bad guys in an unlikely shoot-out, but damn if it doesn't look like fun. And damn if it isn't.

Schwarzenegger plays Sheriff Ray Owens, a small town cop on the Arizona-Mexico border. Coming his way from Las Vegas is an escaped cartel boss (Eduardo Noriega) in a souped-up Corvette ZR-1. In a ridiculous and convoluted scenario, this occurs during a transfer supervised by FBI agent John Bannister played by Forest Whitaker in a performance about as lame as his character's management of the transfer. Maybe Whitaker just couldn't understand director Jee-woon Kim's instructions.

The fun really starts when Cortez (Noriega) approaches the border town. You...

Got to see location filmimg/Movie
It is a movie of PURE ACTION< LAFFS< AND A FUN ROLLERCOASTERV RIDE. Bulk of movie was shot near where I live. Neighbors signed up as extras but landed on the cuttting room floor. Anyway, the jail break, the Corvettte, the preparation in town for the forthcoming crap coming their way. Arnold, the supporting cast Peter Stormare(Fargo), Johnny Knoxville, etc Everyone was a good ,credible actor. Movie was just plain fun....divides up your attention to action, to drama, to humor...The mix of these elements are pure genius. Go too far with one aspect could have ruined this gem. Fame High

Fame High
If you think regular high school is tough, you haven't seen anything yet. Fame High takes competition and pressure between peers to a whole new level. This very real high school in Los Angeles is a performing arts school where you'll find singers, dancers, actors and more. What makes this documentary unique is that its like watching real life musical coming to life. There are lots of fantastic performances. These are some really talented kids at this school but not all of them are going to make it to the big time. There is heart break, arguments, and a whole lot of drama as these Freshmen struggle to find their place. Some of the kids earned some respect. Some of them I felt need to be knocked down a peg, but all in all, this a great documentary that shows you just how much work goes into becoming a star.

***Complimentary copy received in exchange for an honest review***

The Reel Glee
Fame High is an incredible look at the reel Glee - high school students striving to make it big in the arts. It wonderfully follows several characters as they succeed - and sometimes don't succeed so much at the most competitive and high pressured arts high schools in Los Angeles. Totally recommend this new work by the extremely talented filmmaker behind the Oscar nominated The Garden.

Stand Up Guys [HD]

3.5 stars... Enjoyable for the performances
"Stand Up Guys" (2013 release; 94 min.) starts with Val (played by Al Pacino) being released from jail after a 28 year stint. He's awaited by his best friend Doc (played by Christopher Walken). We later find out that Val was in jail for the killing of the son of tough guy Claphands, and that Claphands has hired Doc to take out Val by 10 am the next morning. The movie plays out entirely in the 24 hrs. between Val's release from jail and the next morning. During that time we see the two old buddies "liven it up", leading to sometime funny (if at times predictable, as in: Viagra overdose consequences, etc.), and sometimes sentimential moments about the "bad old days" (when they get ready to take on some baddies, they look at each other and start humming: "It's time to kick ass or time to chew gum! but I've run out of gum", ha!).

Several comments: the only plot line that matters in the entire movie is whether at the end Doc takes out Val (I'm not going to tell you how it ends,...

Al Pacino unleashed - don't miss this gem!
I was lucky to attend a screening of ,Stand Up Guys', a thriller-comedy with Al Pacino and Christopher Walken. The movie is hilarious with lots of funny scenes and dialogues. Especially Al Pacino shows method acting at its best. He doesn't play - he is the low rank veteran mobster Val, who - fresh out of prison - wants to make the best of his last hours on earth. Val's only friend Doc is the exact opposite. He looks like a living dead while he is following Val through the night. Doc has a job to do and his job is to kill Val until the next morning. He doesn't have a choice. The mafia don, who wants to see Val dead, has threatened to kill Doc's niece, if Doc spares his friend's life. The world seems to press on Doc's shoulders. Val, on the other hand, knows for whom the bell tolls, but he's a ,Stand Up Guy' and so is his friend.

Director Fisher Stephens arranged extremely funny and dramatic scenes in a quick succession, but his best decision was to step back and let these...

A Stand Up Performance
Three criminals reunite to recapture the glory of their lawless youth, but find their celebrations interrupted when one is put into a difficult position by a vengeful mob boss. Nearly 20 years after refusing to inform on his partner-in-crime, Val (Al Pacino) emerges from prison a free man. Waiting for him at the gate is his old friend Doc (Christopher Walken), who quickly takes him out on the town with the mischievous Hirsh (Alan Arkin) to stir up some trouble. Good movie well acted. I enjoyed watching the forever young Al Pacino.

Brave New Girl

Made Me Cry
This is a wonderful movie and I love everything about it. I think it was a great movie for family to see and talk about. That is all I have to say.

Loved The Movie
I found the movie rather cute. Of course if any movie has dancing or singing, I'll automatically love it. :) But the lip synching was pretty obvious in most parts. And from that, it makes you wonder who exactly can REALLY sing. Oh well, I still love the movie and I think it's worth the watch.

Dreams can come true with faith, hard work and perseverance
This 2004 tv film is based on the book "A Mother's Gift" written by Britney Spears and her mother. The story involves a single mother (Virginia Madsen) and her talented daughter (Lindsey Haun) who are poor, good-hearted Texans. The daughter's dream is to go to a prestigious music school in Philadelphia. The mother sacrifices everything (literally) to make it happen. There are humiliating obstacles and intense pressures. Can the daughter persevere and succeed. What about the mother?

Some people wrote negative reviews just because the story was written and produced by Britney Spears and her mother. These people obviously hate Britney. Regardless, the truth is she's a talented, likable pop musician/showman, not to mention incredibly famous. I don't listen to her style of music and would likely never buy one of her cds or see her in concert but who can deny this?

What matters is: Is the story any good? Yes it is. Both my wife and I enjoyed it from beginning to end...

Black Rock

Cant remember watching it!
From what i remember it is a good Sunday afternoon watch.
I liked it.
Not the greatest but very good.

tmann
This was a great movie, I was surprise by Lake Bell to make this type of movie, all I can say go buy this movie.

Exciting edge of your seat thriller!
Where the females finally prevail. This is your typical jealous drunk girl, wanting all the males attention. And eventually biting off more than she wanted. I enjoyed this movie being a female, and of course wanting the men to get what they deserved. Worth renting!

Valentin (English Subtitled)

Emotional Life of a 9-Year-Old Boy.
"Valentin" is director Alejandro Agresti's semi-autobiographical tribute to the emotional strength of children. Valentin (Rodrigo Noya) is a 9-year-old boy living with his grandmother (Carmen Maura) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1969. His grandmother loves him, but misses her recently deceased husband desperately and complains constantly of her remaining family. Valentin dreams of being an astronaut and longs for his mother, whom he has not been allowed to see since his parents' divorce. When Valentin's ill-tempered father (Alejandro Agresti) introduces his son to Leticia (Julieta Cardinali), the latest in a long string of girlfriends, Valentin takes to her immediately, and feels that his life is looking brighter.

If "Valentin" were a little older, this might be called a coming-of-age story. Instead, it is a story of this boy's ability to adapt, to find hope in the events around him, and to advance his own cause in his own way. Valentin is an opinionated child, sometimes to...

"It will get me to the moon"
The charm that this heartwarming movie possesses is based on two factors, the outstanding screenplay by Agresti and the unbelievable performance of a small kid that makes his debut on the big screen, Rodrigo Noya. The film depicts a series of events in Valentin's life when he was eight years old, with the kid himself narrating these events. This characteristic provides the story with an unusual freshness and candor, with the plain language used by most kids being a salient feature of this production.

Valentin lives with his grandmother (Carmen Maura) in a modest house in a barrio of Buenos Aires. He is obsessed with being an astronaut and is already practicing holding his breath, walking in the absence of gravity and dressing up in the required attire; the scene in which he puts on his home made astronaut suit is enough to make this movie worth watching. The reasons for Valentin living with his grandmother are that his mother abandoned him and his father a while back and...

About a boy looking for a family
I liked "Valentin."

It walks through a few weeks of a boy's life, Valentin, as he navigates his days living with a suspicious, protective grandmother. His dad is caught up in his own life, his mother is apparently found some unnamed trouble, and so Valentin is in the care of his father's mother.

It has the sweetness and romance of "Cinema Paradiso," the charm of "The Wonder Years," the subtle dramatic humor of "Lost in Yonkers," and the uncanny real-time wisdom of "Simon Birch."

His father visits whenever he falls in love, and although Valentin loves his father, he knows the relationship is, at best, casual. The father is somewhat abusive, but the point made isn't that, but how he simply is not around.

When the father meets Leticia, a young woman half his age, he introduces them. Valentin falls for her completely, while Leticia listens carefully. To him, she is mother potential. He trusts her, but she is the wiser of the two, and finds that...

Brave New World

Updated is O.K. but lost some of the sting
Update classics as Shakespeare and you distort the feel along with the message. It was written for a period and the more you deviate the more you lose the point let alone the ambiance. Update "Brave New World" and you threaten to do the same. However the use of today's technology and making the primitives just unruly people (shades of Logan's Run) did not actually distract that much and may even have been the original intention.
The movie uses well know actors that fit the characters (Peter Gallagher as Bernard Marx and Leonard Nimoy as Mustapha Mond). The scenery is and sci-fi technology is well done and believable.

With all of this there is a great letdown when the story line is not followed and the sting and impact is missing from the book as the story was changed into just a contemporary social commentary. The book by Aldous Huxley is based on the day's example of genetic engineering or a least a little alcohol to create people that were happy in their station. The...

Underrated gem
A made for TV film that boasts wonderful acting and a script that both visualizes and honors the thought provoking work (of great depth), which provides the title.

Leaving the plot description for others - a thought:
It is evident that the team responsible for this film treated the content very seriously, this is a work of love.

This film had somehow found itself buried under years of lesser films, and seen by too few - but it is a gem.

A recommended choice for viewing - and a buy if ever it appears on DVD.

needs to be on dvd
I agree that this was a very nice adaptation of Brave New World. Nimoy is fabulous, perfectly cast, if not quite true to the book, and the story of John the Savage and the depiction of the culture was spot-on. It is VERY useful for classroom work on the book.

Highly recommended and wondering why it isn't available on DVD?

Stuck

Must See!
Anyone who cares about kids should watch this-it's easy to overlook these children and just be concerned about our daily lives!

Great examination of the world of international adoption
After recently returning from Africa to bring our daughter home, we could resonate with a lot of what was examined in this documentary. The film does a great job of highlighting the barriers to international adoption and the need for a reworking of the Hague standards. However, I do wish they would have explained more about the need for some kind of standards that ensure (as much as possible) ethical international adoptions.

Extraordinary documentary
I saw this film in the theater and was excited to see it due to my own personal interest in the subject. As an adoptive parent of internationally adopted children I was so glad that a movie was finally made about this process, the good, the bad and the ugly.

Well, the film more than met my expectations! It was honest, accurate, moving, funny, sad and beautifully done with a lively soundtrack cutting edge cinematography.

I bought 2 copies of the film and recommend it to any parents or anyone who cares about children.

Leonie [HD]

really enjoyed this movie
Leonie - The true story of Leonie Gilmour, set in the 1900's. Leonie is a educated American woman who agrees to become editor, and in time - lover, to the Japanese poet Yone Noguchi - I have to wonder how famous he would have been without her interjections. She bears his child (Isamu) and follows him to Japan only to find he already has a wife and sets her up as his mistress. She leaves him securing jobs teaching English. Once on her own she again gives birth and never reveals who the birth father is.
It's also interesting because the film has a Japanese director, it's filmed in Japan and yet it seems truly to mock Japanese sexism. Yone is definitley the villian, sexist, violent and selfish, I believe she fell in love with him because of his creativity and his constant pursuit of her.
Very good movie.

A work of art
This is a profoundly beautiful true story. A proud and independant woman is first weakened by the love she has for an abusive man, but the love for her child redeems her and gives her back the strength and the pride to reasume her life .The film is poetry and the main character engages your heart and admiration.

Interesting story of a single mother in the early 1900s.
I liked this take on the life of the artist through the story of the mother of the artist. Very well done scenes of Japan and straight-forward story of the mother's life as her son and daughter grow up. I liked seeing Noguchi's outdoor installments at the end of the movie.

The Pink Conspiracy

you have GOT to LOVE the Nursey scene!!
This film was hilarious and a great concept--especially because every guy has wondered it--"is every woman in my life in a huge conspiracy to destroy me??" also for the ladies, it's hilarious to see a guy go crazy trying to figure it all out--haven't you wanted a jerk ex's life ruined and all other girls in his life to screw him over? there are a lot of interesting and funny characters to follow in the plot and some beautiful female actresses. the main guy is likeable enough to be interesting but annoying enough for you to laugh at his misery. the best part is the nursey scene played by an androgenous midget like character with 80's make up and sweats along with the big guy from Fridays with the crossed eye who in the scene has been so screwed over by women that he's absolutely crazy to the point of no return. i really enjoyed this movie--clearly a lot of time went into making it--very professional, yet it still has that wonderful, relatable, indie feel. you've got to check it out!!!

Still laughing
Great laugh out loud indie film. A complete surprise with sharp writing and fantastic characters. Everything comes tighter with this one. If you're looking for a movie that you can watch with a group and that everyone won't have been seen a hundred times already, this is the one. Well shot, well acted--great indie effort.

wild ride through relationship HELL!
Hot girls, wild and crazy characters & great dialogue. This is the kind of indie film that has a simple story that leaves you laughing while making you think. Mix some David Lynch, with some Farrelly Brothers, and add some old school 70's/80's style - Great cast of actors and new faces. Funny as hell!
